Hello,
I recently bought a 1988 Glastron 17ft. Conroy bowrider.It has a mercrusier sterndrive.
The power trim resiovor was cracked and I did not notice untill I had to add oil for a third time.
Now the 20w oil has soaked the red carpet in the battery and trim compartment and has also migrated to the ski storager area under the floorboard.
I have used paper towels to get the bulk of the oil,but can anyone recomend a way to get the oil out of the carpet and the oil that is under the
floor between the motor compartment and the ski sorage are that is between the seats.
Thank You
Johnny Walker
jwalk2c@charter.net

Re: oil in carpet

Been there ,done that.If the carpet can come out you should spray brake cleaner to remove the oil and follow it up with simple green cleaner.Dont spray the brake cleaner if you cant get the carpet out of the boat. The simple green can also be used inn the bilge, lockers etc.You should try to get as much absorbed as possible with oil absorber cloth available at auto or marine store. If you use dish detergent or any less powerful cleaner, the smell will never go away and you will always have an oily residue.and by the way, scrub with a stiff brush as you clean.
