Any ideas how Lower unit oil could get in the impeller houseing? Could the houseing gaskets allow this to happen? Recently had the motor on its back off of the boat and not alot but some oily substance came out the lower unit? exhaust port? water inlet?(thinking water inlet due to impeller containing some oil) when reinstalled and just trying to track possible locations.. Ive research this with google etc and am tired of going to different threads with similar situations but never asked this question. And im pretty sure its the LU oil not exhaust...

Lower unit oil is contained in the lower unit by seals under the WP housing. If you have lower unit oil in the WP housing it's likely the seals are bad and you most likely have water in the lower unit oil as well.

The gaskets under the WP housing and under the impeller plate only hold out water. In reality the gaskets are there so that air isn't sucked into the impeller around the housing.

Hope that helps with your question.
