Hi,
I'm new here and I'm really sorry if this has been posted a million times. I have a 21 foot Monterey with a 5.7GSI Volvo Penta engine. Does anyone know what engine oil i should run in this engine. I live in Florida and my average boating temps are 80 to 100 degrees. I have Volvo Penta oil in straight 30 weight and 15w-50 and someone suggested running Royal Purple 20w-50. Kinda confused can someone help?

Thanks a ton,
Anthony

Welcome to IBOATS! I think the Volvo straight 30 wt is what is recommended... maybe you should run that. Otherwise i think they allow 10w30. The 30 wt is good for 32 degrees and up. No need for royal purple :) But you can run the brand of your choice. Goodluck and don't think too much about it. It's just oil. Just keep it changed and you will be golden.

15w40 at the least, 20w50 or straight 30. 10w30 would be a bit light for the hot weather you get down there. Make sure you change it at least once a year or twice if you do a lot of boating.

Re: Oil info

Thanks,
It seems Volvo suggests straight 30 weight so i think I'll give that a shot. Our boating season down here is from early March to early November and we usually miss 2 or 3 weekends the whole season so i will definately be doing several oil changes each season!

Thanks again,
Anthony

find out the year of your engine, go to VP site and download the owner's manual for free
