The check valve (?) for the engine oil tank is dripping TCW oil, really makes a mess, so I will order one tomorrow and try to get it changed. I stuck a pencil in it for the time being.
The Mercury part # is 22-424252 and is listed as a fitting, I am assuming this is the check valve. Anyone know for sure that the fitting is in fact a check valve. They want $20.90?
I guess I answered my own question after looking in the Mercury shop manual.
Checked my manual, it says that it is a 2PSI Check Valve. If the flow to the reservoir is obstructed and injection pump continues to pump oil, the 2 psi valve will open to allow air to enter reservoir to prevent a vacuum. So I guess I don't want to keep it plugged.

gss,

There maybe some different opinions on this, But the age of your motor warrants the thought of possibly removing the oil injection system completely.
There a other things that can go wrong that you should check out.

Check all the oil hoses, replace if brittle or if they have lost their softness. The oil pump itself should be checked by removing it and taking a look at the metal gear on the pump. If you see any plastic shavings on it it is time to go to premix because the plastic drive gear in the crank is bad. The cap on the motor oil tank should be checked/replaced. And the pressure line from the engine to the tank in the boat should be checked as well as the line from that tank to the motor.

If you see problems with any of the above, you might consider just going to premix from now on. A broken oil line here, a bad drive gear on the pump and there goes a cylinder... Check the oil alarms also...

KClost, I just replaced the clear oil lines from the tank to the oil pump. Checked the remote tank lines, checked the bleed lines. The only thing I haven't done is pull the oil pump.
I also checked the cap on the oil tank, it is ok.
The oil is for sure coming from the open vent line as I can see it when the engine is running.
I ordered a new check valve, I will replace it and see what happens.

Got the check valve installed over the week end, solved the oil problem. Also put the new Mercury temp sensor back on in place of the TelFlex sender and the temp readings are back to where they should be. I put 1 1/2 hours on the motor today.
Just glad those problems are solved and fixed.
