oil injection on Meccury XR6 need opinons

I have a 1996 Merc with about 25 hrs on it,shop says oil injection plastic drive gear is on the crankshaft its either pull power head and change gear or plug ports and just go ahead and mix oil with gas and save 2000.00 is this a good idea. Thanks for any ideas or opinons Rick Im getting ready to retire and sure did not need this problem boat and motor just like new from not being used

Not a problem... Lot's of people by-pass working ones just for piece of mind... Lot of motors have been lost because oil pumps failed...
