Oil Injection System

I have a 2004 50 hp ELPTO. It has the oil injection system on it. I have had people tell me that the nylon gear in the system is only good for about 10 years and if it goes it will cause the motor to blow. My questions are:

1. Is this correct?
2. Does the 50 hp have an alarm for this problem?

I do not know the answer to these two questions and hopefully someone here can give me the answers. Also, would you recommend that I continue to use the oil injection system or would you recommend that I start to mix the oil in the gas tank?

Thanks,
Randy

Re: Oil Injection System

I dont think its a time thing. More of a loading issue. High speeds will stress the nylon gear too much . You arent running high speeds ( Over 6000 )

I'd keep it if I were me. Really convenient system and you do have a set of alarms that will tell you if you are low on oil and if the pump gear is turning.

Re: Oil Injection System

Thanks for the response. How do I know if the alarm system is working? On the 50hp there is no alarm sound when you turn on the key to make sure that it is working like there are on larger motors.

Thanks,
Randy

Re: Oil Injection System

Do you have the service manual and the operators manual for your engine? If not, please post your engine s/n and see my message to you in Notifications at the top of the page. These will detail the operation and testing of your warning systems.

Gerry, I have the operators manual but do not have a service manual. The serial number is OT899944.
