Oil Injection Tank

I bought a boat and motor (1965 75HP Johnson) that came with some type of oil injection tank. It has two wires going to the tank and a hose (similar to fuel hose) coming out of the tank. Can anyone steer me to a manual or installation instructions, etc. so I can figure out what I actually have?

It sounds like some one replaced a newer outboard with the 1965 Johnson but they didn't remove the VRO tank. OMC did not produce any oil injected outboards until the mid eighties when the first VRO machines came out.

Premix your fuel and gas at 50:1 using any TC-W3 compliant marine two cycle oil and you will not have any problems.

Motor was original to boat (1965) and was never replaced. So the tank I have is a VRO tank?

Oil injection was not avialable until the mid 1980's on J/E outboards.

Someone switched OB's, somewhere along the line, and was too lazy to remove the oil tank.

Truth here, truth there. Your decision.

OK, Motor was original to boat in 1965. Somewhere in the 80s a new Johnny was installed along with it's oil injection resevoir, and old motor was in storage. Sometime later that motor was taken off and original motor reinstalled.

Does that fit all the truths?

Vettnuts, They are Wrong!

The oil injection system is original to the boat. OMC offered the option of oil injection or fuel mix on these models in the 1960s. I am about to purchase a 1965 Evinrude Playmate with oil injection.

The oiling system on the 88 hp stern drive didn't work worth a dam. That's why OMC told you to take them off and mix your fuel and oil together. They even had a decal you put by the gas gap on the boat telling you to do this.
