Re: oil injection

You will save yourself a lot of grief if you just buy a manual, DSlayer. No smart wrench works on an outboard without one.

Good luck. :)

Re: oil injection

The book that I have was for my old 81 Merc motor and the dealership told me that it would work for my 91 but they were wrong. It talks about the oil injection but does not tell me how to disconnect it. So I was trying not to have to go buy another book right now.

I don't think the manual will tell you how to disconnect and run pre-mix. You will need to order a plastic plug to take the place of the oil pump and a screw plug to take the place of the oil inlet from your oil resevoir. I beleive there is also a three way fitting that feeds the oil into the fuel line, take it out and hook the fuel lines together. It's a very easy project. I would think your local marine could get you parts (about 20 bucks) and guide you through. Good luck. Let us know what you did. Also when you get that oil pump out throw it as far as you can!!! It made me feel better.
CU

Don't give up on oil injection! Marine Solutions sells a bolt on Electronic Oil Injection system for your engine. You can have all the advantages of oil injection and maintain the resale value of the engine with a one hour installation. You can get details at 262-524-0804.

I'm not sure what you are looking at but on my 85 150 there was a solid seal that surrounded the upper part of the shaft. I got a pocket knife and carfully wedged it out. I figured if I bugered it up it didn't matter I was tossing it anyway. After I loosend it the shaft came out. Not sure if yours is the same though. Be careful and get a second opinion if your not sure. Good luck. let us know.
CU

Also make sure NOTHING falls back in the shaft hole! I'm not familiar with the electronic oil injetion you might give that a thought also. Is the shaft you bought a one piece plastic shaft? you should also have a small Screw plug.
CU

Re: oil injection

I cut the wires coming from the area where the oil pump used to be, this will stop the short beep from sounding when you turn the key and the oil alarm, but that's ok if your motor is like mine. My overheat horn is seperate from the oil horn, it is located on the drivers side under the top spark plug. If you ground this wire out it should sound the horn and you'll know the heat warning system is working. Make sure these two systems are seperate before you cut any wires. Good luck and let me know I'd like to know if this is how the 91 works.
CU
