how do i drain the resivior and what can i use to flush it with i took the lines off both hydraulic pistons

Not sure you need to drain the reservoir. Just run the pump (with the lines disconnected) and pump the oil out. Keep an eye on the level and top up as required with new oil. Continue until clear oil comes out of the lines. You should also drain the oil from the trim cyls as well.

What kind of oil is/was in there? Some owners used 10W30 motor oil, others used tranny fluid. Seems like any type of oil will work on those old systems.

i had 10/30 in it didnt know tranny fluid worked thought it might eat seals already cleaned out cylinders when i disconnected lines i will flush out tomorrow noticed a bad bushing can shock asorber bushings work also money getting tight any cheap ideas will be helpful thanks alot

Good question. I am in the process of installing the same power trim system on my motor (1971 Merc 800). Will look tomorrow and see if they are compatible.
