Here is food for thought............
I've been a Chrysler tech for, well a few more decades than I care to say!
The seal could be just hard from heat/ old age.
BEFORE you pull the harmonic balancer, take 2 pry bars, or 2 big screw drivers, push IN on the balancer then pull out, (crank shaft end play).
there is a thrust bearing in the middle of the crank that limits the forward/backward movement.
In 40 plus years I've had 2 cranks that had too much movement, but..........
Pull the balancer, look where the seal rides, should be NO grooves.
If there is.........
You can buy a seal kit, it has a sleeve that slides over the balancer and a different seal to get a smooth groove free surface for the seal to ride on. (It's a GM engine, go to Napa or?? and ask for the seal kit).
Make sure you grease the lip of the seal when you install it, (have seem more than a few installed dry, a few miles later leaking again).
Front seal should take you hour er 2 depending on the tools, (a good puller), clearance you have.
Not a hard nor messy job.
Joe
as always take any advice I give with a can of beer er 2!
