It looks like most or all the oil has leaked out of my out drive over the winter (judging from all the dead grass) The oil has come out a small hole that is in the bottom of the drive,Where and how hard is it to change the seal that is bad ?, My boat is a 1986 Imperial 230 horse 305 Chev V-8

If your talking about the small hole on the front edge of the drive, that's the speedometer tube.

Either way you need to take the drive off, drain lube, then pressure test, to identify where its leaking. Probably want to split in have and check/replace the impeller if it has not been done in the last couple years. Then check alignment before it goes back together

There is a small bleed hole that is designed to allow the open water/exhaust passage to drain when parked. It will fill up with oil if one of the internal seals are leaking, starting with the seal under the water pump and the one in the upper case at the top of the shaft coming out of the water pump. As AD said, best bet is pull the drive, drain it and pressure test it and find what all is leaking. Appears you have an Alpha1, so no speedo hole.

Bummer. That little drain hole is there for just that reason, but is easy to get plugged with sand and silt.
