Oil leak

I'm replacing the front crankshaft seal on my gen V mercruiser BB and I have read in a few other spots that maybe I should replace my harmonic balancer. I have looked at getting one and my question is are they just replaceable in an even swap? or are they balanced with the flywheel and have to be matched.

Is there a groove worn on it? If so replace it.

You can also buy a sleeve to cover a groove. If done properly they work well. If motor has been rebuilt and rebalanced SOME machine shops will balance by removing weight from balancer, they souldn't but sometimes its much easier/faster. You should be able to tell by looking carfully at it and compare to a new one.
