I have a 40 Hp evenrude Big Twin and have oil coming out of the little hole in front of the prop. When I pull the boat out of the water and the water drains out a little bit of greenish black oil comes out of the hole. I checked the lower unit and there is no water in it. What can this be from . Can it be left over exhaust? This is a 40hp 1963 and the lower unit just oil in it. Iam running it at 25 to 1.

Yes, it is probably left over unburned oil that you see. No big deal, as long as the lower unit has no water in it.

Hi Jerry <br />It is very difficult to tell sitting here. Most of the time you are correct that little bit of oil is just exhaust residue. When you stated that the color was greenish, that may be cause for alarm. I suggest that you drain and presure and vacuume test the lower unit. This will tell you right away if you have a problem.

Re: OIL LEAK

What color is the oil that you use in the motor? If you drained the lower unit and the fluid looked good(Not Milky), I don't see any reason to pressure test it, unless it will give you peace of mind.
