Oil leaking around prop on 225 ,98

I see black oil leaking around the prop and it seems from one of the bolts in front of the skeg on the lower unit. If it was lower unit oil why would it be black considering I just changed the oil and haven't run the boat past idle since changing it. Second just I pressure tested the unit before putting it back in the water and it was fine so how could it be a lower unit seal?

It is probably oil/wter mix draining from the exhaust cavities. Smell it and see if it is gear case oil (unique smell). If not don't worry .

Thanks I read some other posts and I think it is gas and oil. I have been running at idle for a long time and noticed some gas coming out after running. Is there anyway to limit this or adjust so it is minimized?

check the plugs if they seem fine and it idles OK then it is most lickely OK. If when you open it up the reponse is good, with no missing etc. I wouldn't worrey. It is better to be too rich than too lean on a 2 stoke. Running lean will burn pistons

Might want to consider performing a decarb on that engine as well.Particularly if you do a lot of trolling or slow speed operation.After performing the decarb on first engine run,I'm guessing you'll see a considerable amount of carbon exiting the hub until it clears itself.Thereafter ,black deposits will be a slow accumulative process of reoccurring.

I will decarbing this weekend. Is there anyway to cut down on the leaking fuel/oil?

Trim the engine up when trolling or idling (minimizes back pressure).Just watch your telltale.<br />DHP
