Unburned oil & gas & soot can seep out of the exhaust housing. Usually it is black or gray. This is totally normal. Lower unit oil would be syrupy and has distinct smell.

If black, gungy and smelling burnt or of gasoline then its probabaly just parly burnt oil from the fuel.
If its a light creamy emulsion or a clear heavy oil and smells like gear oil then it is probably gear oil leaking from the drive shaft seals. If you suspect the latter check your gear case for signs of water ingress.

Yep, just like Vic.S says. Just check and make sure your lower unit oil is free of water intrusion. It should look like oil, instead of milkshake. What you see there, is normal, just as long as it isn't coming from your gearcase. Any oil that is coming from your gearcase, that comes out in the weep holes, would likely be from a bad upper case seal or shift rod seal. Of course, any other bad lower unit seals will leave the oil way off in the distance behind you. :D
