oil leaking past zip ties

After some investigation to my oil leak. I think it's leaking past the zip ties on the oil pump inlet and outlet. I've cinched them at tight as I can because I used to be able to spin them around a bit, but I still see a bit of oil on the other side of the ties though the clear supply lines. Never actually seen it drip. Just a puddle in the cowling.

It seems to only happen at WOT because I idled in a trash can for 30 mins or so without a drop. Hard to poke my head in there running at top speed. Last outing it was too choppy to give much throttle. Didn't really seen anyting I'd call a leak.

So I'm wondering if a faulty 2 PSI check valve (where it "T's" into the fuel pump line) is causing too much pressure in these lines when the variable oil pump opens up on WOT.

Wondering if that's possible or I should start taking the pump apart...

Re: oil leaking past zip ties

The check valve function is to prevent the fuel from flowing back into the oil pump. A faulty stuck open check valve would let the fuel enter the oil line while a stuck close valve won't provide any oil in the fuel, both resulting in a no oil in fuel condition, wich isn't good and would seize the engine in a matter of minutes.

I doubt there's enough pressure there to cause a leak. Maybe a cracked hose somewhere?

BTW, i have the exact same engine and mine always leaked a bit aroud the cap of the oil tank.

I've heard it's common to leak out the tank when tilted. The tank is new and clean. I've kept it 3/4 full to avoid any spilling when tilted.

I tried running it with a paper towel at the base of the cowling to trace any drips. It doesn't drip at low rpm. The lines look ok themselves. It's a pretty basic system. Not many places for staright oil to leak from.

Just wondering if something in the check valve could provide more resistance than normal, but still allow oil through, or some other resistance via a check valve (diaphram) in the fuel pump.

Or if it could be dripping past the o-rings in the oil pump.
