Volvo Penta SX-M 2001.

The manual says it takes 2100cc of oil. I have drained and filled with 2L of VP oil which was what the dealer gave me. I have checked the level and it is not showing on the dipstick at all is the dipstick only 100cc's?. I know its not leaking as its in the garage and any spill would be obvious.

Regards

Chris

hello
dont do much with the cc's but that unit will hold about 2 1/2 quarts sometimes slightly more. dont over fill it as oil in the driven gear cup can cause shift problems.

Chris, don't know if you have the owners manual, but here is one page out of it that might help.
I have also found that waiting for 15 minutes or so is a good idea as sometimes an air bubble is very slow to purge out.

Re: Oil Level in Outdrive

Don,

Thanks, I left it for a couple of days before checking the level. Having put two litres into the drive it does not measure at all on the dipstick it comes out dry.

Now I know im 100cc short according to the manual so I will just top it up as suggested in the manual but it just bugging me that 100cc seems such a small amount of oil to be the difference between dry dipstick and top of the level.

Regards

Chris

Re: Oil Level in Outdrive

Talking about filling oil levels on outdrives, I got a small plastic funnel and turned it into the dip stick hole on top of the outdrive being plastic it will thread itself. I stuck a small hose down the funnel for a vent and I fill my unit that way, no mess on the floor trying to put the drain plug in when the unit is full of oil. Most SX drives take 72 oz of of oil so it is real easy to measure the right amount.
