Where on the dip stick does it show the proper oil level in the engine. I know some engines are near the bottom, and how is the best way to check the oil in a 4 stroke do they vary from brand to brand. How often or when should you change it. I have a 2002 DF50 which I bought around March and it only had 22 hours on it. It was in the shop getting serviced when I bought it, they did regular maintenance, and replaced some sensors. So I figure the oil was changed then, it is clear on the dip stick. Any suggestions are appreciated.

There should be 2 holes in the dipstick about 1in or so apart. If the oil is within the 2 holes then it is in operating range.

Once a year is a good rule of thumb for oil changes.

Re: oil level in Suzuki DF50

my dipstick has a waffle patern I don't remember any holes. I have a buddy who has a new verado, and they have a website where he was told to trim his motor down for some time, and then up for some time, and then back down for some time, then check the oil and do not go past 2/3's full on the dipstick. I know that is a lot but if you have seen the verado or got to drive one, they are nice. Don't think I'm dissen my Suzuki, I am not.

Re: oil level in Suzuki DF50

For a correct and accurate reading trim the motor level with the ground. As long as the oil is within the waffle pattern, it's ok. Just like any other 4-stroke engine; car, truck, lawn mower, etc.....if the oil gets low in or below the waffle patern then add more.
