I just bought an old boat I plan to restore. The motor was as is, not in working condition. My initial attempt to start the motor failed. I noticed that the "low oil" beep-Beep-Beep warning sounded as I was turning over motor. This wasn't a concern because I was using a seperate gas can with pre-mix to be safe. But will the electrical system not allow the motor to fire with alarm sounding?? Is there anyway to disengage this safeguard. Would anyone recommend bypassing permanent....or using the factory system. How do I know if it has been tampered with...or if it works. Any help would be appreciated.

Look for the serial number of the motor. Tell us specific facts. Do not disconnect anything. It sounds like a late 80's merc you might be dealing with. Post some new findings.
Capt E
Jeez. I didnt see the name of the post. And this was an edit to my post Emmer

Thanks....I'll get more info the next time I'm out where I store it.
After reading more posts...I saw where a guy put premix in his oil resevoir and premix in his gas tank. Then ran it a while to see if the premix in the oil resevoir goes down, confirming the system is working. Do you have any concerns with this method....

Doesnt sound natural . Maybe an expert could say. Might work. but... If you run premix and oil I think the motor would foul plugs. Gte a good battery, a tank of gas, run it to the fuel pump and give it a whirl.
