oil on spark plug

I just looked at my 1972 Evinrude 9.5, and noticed that there was some oil around the lower spark plug. I turned it with my hand, and noticed that the plug was loose. When I unscrewed it, I noticed that there was oil all on it, and on the threads. I forgot to run all of the gas out of it yesterday after I took it out, but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I did notice that when I ran it, the motor was missing and bogging down occassionally. I am running it on 50:1 with high quality oil. Can anyone help me? :)

Re: oil on spark plug

Sounds like the plug was loose and you were getting blowby from loss of compression which explains why it was running poorly.
Clean or replace the plug and tourque it down to factory specs. That should solve your problem.
Ps- check the other plugs torque while you'er at it., good luck :D

Re: oil on spark plug

Thanks a lot, I bet that's what it was. Does anyone know what the gap setting should be for my motor? :)
