OIL PAN REMOVAL

I have a 1986 OMC COBRA with 350 engine in a 2452 Ciera Sunbridge Bayliner. Do I have to remove or lift engine to remove oil pan?

if you do have enough space under the engine to work with you should be able to get it out without removing the engine, usually the oil pump is in the way and you have to drop the pan far enough to get it out... otherwise there is no other way without pulling the engine out or at least lifting it high enough <br /><br />Hope this helps<br /><br />Dom

Thanks for the reply Doman. I think you're correct about the oil pump. How do I take the oil pump out?

Lots of times the engine has to come out to replace the pan. I have seen guys remove the oil pump with the pan sitting on the bilge floor and then pulled the pan and oil pump out. I imagine it can be a real bear getting it back in that way.

hello<br /> dude<br /> bite the bullet and pull the engine. place it on a stand and do it with the motor upside down. if it has a lot of hours now would be a perfect time to inspect the balancer seal surface for grooves. the rear mainseal for grooves and the timing chain for wear. it will also be a great time to check the starter and manifold bolts as well.<br /> good luck and keep posting
