oil pressure alarm vp 5.7 gxi

Just started on this problem so I don't have all info yet. But here's where I am:

had the boat out the other night with friends coming down from WOT for 10 minutes the oil pressure alarm went off. Guage which is suspect as many of my guages do not work, said oil pressure was good between 20 and 45 psi.

Oil levels were fine. When I got back the next day i disconnected the sender for the alarm and resumed using the boat.

I have been noticing a white smoke coming from exhaust, bad idle, but otherwise smoothly running, little hard to start but 2 tries ok.

Checked the oil today and noticed it was way way down. Don't see any oil in bilge, pressure still looks good. Filled it up again with oil and took her for a spin. Too much smoke for my comfort. Although it's not too much most people wouldn't notice.

It smoked a good bit after first start, and then seemed to run clean at idle at the dock. But underway and underload the smoke appeared again.

Trying to get my dockside vp tech to the boat in time for the weekend but not sure he can make it.

Any ideas. Where to begin the troubleshoot diagnostics.

Sounds like the sender was doing its job,

White smoke = burning oil.

Whens the last time you checked your oil?

How long did you run it with the alarm disconnected?

If your other gauges don't work right why would you trust your oil gauge and not your alarm?

Sounds like lack of preventative maintenance is the problem. (checking oil before/after each run)

Get your gauges fixed. They are not there for show. They indicate the vital signs of your engine in real time, and if they dont work and something happens, how are you going to know about it.

Start with a compression check. that will give you a good indication of the health of your engine.

If that passes have your valve seals replaced...

Re: oil pressure alarm vp 5.7 gxi

she just had compression and leakdown tests and those were good.

my mechanic said it could be some oil rings??? don't quite remember but he said once you get into that it's not even worth it, time to get new engine (mine has 480 hours and is beat up quite a bit) and as you said the valve seals.

i'm gonna just confirm the oil pressure is good with manual guage, keep my eye on oil level vigilantly and keep running her.

thanks for your help!!!!
