Had an oil pump failure without a warning signal or beep of any kind, all oil tanks full but nothing making it to the engine. Ran 3 or 4 miles a 3,000 rpm and did not notice any loss of performance or problem of any kind. Is it possible that the power head could make it witout any damage? I understand that Merc uses a plastic gear that pumps oil to the cylinders. Is it possible for a small pieces of destroyed gear to make its way into cylinders ? This sounds like a major design problem. If I check compression on each cylinder and thats ok then go to 50:1 pre mix, can I resume use until I can schedule a complete check by engine tech, or is it possibe that the pump will begin to operate and I will have a 25:1 oil ratio. I think it may be best to have the oil injection system removed and go to all pre mix. What do you think.
