The model number means
E = Evinrude
4 =4hp
R = Rope start
D = Deluxe model
H = Does not have an integral fuel tank
ES = 1990
R is a production suffix
I t is clearly also a long shaft model which should also have a letter L in the code . Presumably it started off in its life as a standard model and has been extended
However the fact that it has twin anti-ventillation plates indicates that it has been converted into a sail power (Yachtwin) model. making it not ideal for a power boat .
You may find thet the exhaust outlet behind the prop has been plugged and that the are exhaust outlets immediately below the upper AV plate. This means it will have to be mounted with the prop much lower than normal or it will be very noisy.
( Sail boats require the prop to be more deeply immersed than power boats because the shape of the hull tends to make them pitch , lifting the prop out of the water ... My sail boat has a 6 hp Yachtwin )
