A younger friend of mine brought his grandparents 1962 45hp Merc back to life after sitting for over 40 years. The motor and boat was what I learned to ski behind in 1963, so it was good to see this rig run again. He told me he read in the original owners manual that the fuel/oil ratio for this motor is 16 to 1. This sounds a bit ridiculous to me. Could he be right?
I have to add that the motor ran great and sounded just as I remembered it back in the early '60s. It did start to load up a bit after 2 tanks of gas, but went back to normal after changing the ratio to 32 to 1. He ran 2 or 3 more tanks at this ratio, never really going to WOT. Thanks for any help.
