Hello,
Before I ask the question I need to give a little history. Helping a friend out that has a Bravo 3 (0W9118) that has been experiencing a drive oil leak in the bilge for awhile now. Last summer, we pulled the outdrive off and found drive oil in the bellows which explained why it was getting to the bilge. He went ahead and replaced the seal/carrier assembly (he used GLM 28372) and the o-ring. He used the boat only a few times after that then stored it for the winter. Over winter it leaked drive oil, then past week he filled the reservoir, ran it for 20 minutes or so then put the boat on the lift. Coming back to it later the reservoir was empty and bilge was full of drive fluid. We triple checked that there were no leaks in the reservoir, line, transom fittings then pulled the drive off and found the bellow were full of drive oil.
I pressure tested the drive after emptying the oil. I used 10 psi and it held over night. Water/soap did not present any air bubbles around the yoke/seal. I pulled apart the drive and looked closely at the yoke, seal/carrier, washer and o-ring. The washer has some pitting on the inner edge where is rides against the sleeve. The sleeve on the yoke has a groove towards the end that can be seen and felt but the rest of it seems smoother. The seal/carrier seem to be fine as does the o-ring.
Clearly, the drive fluid is leaking through the seal but not sure why I couldn't see a leak with the pressure test. Is the groove in the sleeve on the yoke the root of the problem? If so, would replacing 864245T ($200 or so OEM) or would using a speedi sleeve be the best option? I read this link:
https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...6867-exact-fit-speedi-sleeve-for-865492t-yoke
Any tips or opinions would be appreciated on how to proceed.
Thanks
Tim
