Oil Types – what can be used in two strokes.

I have in the past used Castrol Racing, or LIQUI MOLY Racing, full synthetic two stroke oil, all with a TC-W111 rating.

My neighbor just gave me :D a couple of liters of LIQUI MOLY semi-synthetic two stroke oil, with these ratings listed: API-TC, ISO L-EGC, SCC TSC-3.

Can this safely be used in my small outboard?

With oil costing what it does today, I hate not to use it if I can.

It will be run in a 1981 Evinrude 6HP, and I don't plan to mix the oils.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input.

That is what I normaly use here, I just wrote it wrong, or different from the way you have written it. It is normally written as TC-WIII, TCW111, or TCW3 on the container.

The other oil from LIQUI MOLY is described as for lawn mowers, chainsaws, & motorcycles, and has "TCW3" missing from the proof ratings. This is about $60 worth of two stroke oil, and is not a cheap oil. It would be nice to know if I can safely use it in the motor or not.

There are a lot of two stroke, water cooled, high performance motorcycles here, but I think I will stick to the really good stuff.

I prefer to over do it with quality when it comes to oil. I'll think I will leave the oil experiments to someone else, unless I find something from the company that says otherwise.

Maybe I will call the company "Info Line".

As always, many thanks!

I called the company.

Both will work. One is just a slightly lower quality oil and is not designed with the same properties as the race oil.

The race oil (TCW3) is 80% biodegradable in water after 20 days (for the love of fish & tree huggers), and is intended for extended higher operating temperatures with less carbon build up & smoke free operation (mine still smokes a little).

... or so the company spokesman.
