I have a merc.alpha 1 outdrive with an oildyne/singer trim pump.the unit will raise and lower O.K. but the trouble is, when I first start the pump it sounds like it is clicking off and on, after I raise it up and down a few times the pump will run smoothly. Also, when I lower the outdrive it will not tuck all the way in,it should lower at least another inch, the pump does not stop, but sounds like it has reached the full in position. If I disconnect the down lines from the trim cylynders I can then push the outdrive down to its full tucked position, but once I reconnect everything and run it up and down a few times it will not go all the way down again.Any Ideas?

Hi
Have you checked the oil level?
Theres a dipstick in the middle if yours the same as mine (86 mod), remember not to tighten it when you put it back, it is breathing thru the same hole,1 turn out after it bottoms in, the clicking can be bad contact, spray the wires with some electronic cleaning spray and see if that helps.
Regards
Affa

HI Affa, the oil level is OK, the reservoir is vented through a small hole it the filler cap. I'm begging to think something is wrong with the down pressure relief valve, what do you think? are there any rebuild kits available? Thanks
