Re: ok does anybody know anything about force outboards?

hey lone wolf. glad to hear from someone. my problem is this, i have a 99 force 9.9 outboard. first, the motor breaks up at high rpm when in neutral, is it the stator? two, the engine smokes a LOT when at the high rpm, in test bucket, the smoke is comin out of where the lower unit bolts onto the housing? three, the coolant tube that comes off the top of the impellar housing looks like a little white plastic cup to catch the pipe goin to the head, is it supposed to be soft or hard? the plastic feels hard and i think maybe the coolin water is bypassing the connection and sprayin on thre bottom of the block.(possible reason 4 smoke?) Fourth, when a wot 4 while the motor feels like its goin into neutral. maybe the plastic factory prop is slippin on the bushing? its only rated 4 300 lbs and my outfit wieghs about 550lbs. Anyway, this is my 1st force motor. need all the help i can get. thanks

I have a 95 9.9 force and it was slipping in forward then lost forward completely (like its in neutlral). It turned out to be the forward gear. Its made from two parts then brazed together at the factory (poor design), mine broke at the braze. This may or may not be your problem, just something to consider. flyboymark@aol.com seems to know alot about these motors, you may want to email him. iboat has some great prices on newer merc OB motors to, good luck.

Ignored?
The problem with slipping: Have the prop re-hubbed.

The problem with smoke: Old gas, too rich of a mix, too rich carb mixture, overheating, or any combination therein.

The problem with the hose: The plastic piece is suposed to be hard. It does go into the tube in the foot. Replace the impeller and check the thermostat. You should be able to touch the block anywhere without getting burned, and tolerate at least 3seconds of touching. If not, you are overheating.

I dont like to say this because I usually root for the underdog and when Force was in production
I hoped they could do it. They go all the way back
to West Bend outboards.Run from this motor It was fair when new and now its an orphan your fighting an uphill battle.Get a name brand motor
E/J,Merc.Yama.Suzuki,etc.any of them will be better than your Force. If you keep your motor get a ser.manual. Try the tab at the top of the page.
Good luck
