Well I've about decided on my new boat, either a G3 1852 WSOF 2010 model(the desert brown with bench seats) for 3,400.00 out the door. Or a Lowe 1667 Angler for about 2,400.00 out the door. Both plain jane boat only models. The G3 doesnt have a floor kit but they are gonna install two pedistal bases for me, one fore and one aft. Now what I would love from yall is opinions! Ill be fishing mostly bigger lakes. Thanks alot everybody! Will.

The Lowe is a 2011 model. By the way, I wanted the G3 Guide V16 sooooo bad!!! Problem is they sell for 4,200.00 everywhere! They are huge, and perfect for the lake! Anyhooo, thanks for the help deciding!!!

The story of everyone's life is getting a boat smaller than they want or need and then upgrading down the road. If you fish by yourself you can more easily get by with a smaller boat but it gets crowded quick with a buddy. Big water and little boats can be a bad mix too. We all have to do what we can afford when we can afford it. New is great, but you may be able to get a lot more boat for the money if you go used. Just a thought. Good luck Will and enjoy.

I bought a new 1870 Express jon boat in 1999 and really enjoy the "can't screw it up" nature of the thing, very rugged, serviceable, no wood/no rot. A can of OD green camouflage spray paint for any cosmetic touch-ups. Pretty is as pretty does in my book!

I agree... I am not sure about your location, but in FL there are a lot of great options when it comes to used product. I could probably never afford what I want new here, but I certainly get close when it comes to finding a used boat. Keep an open mind, you just might find a great used boat.

Both of those are true.. I liked going alone cause of all the room...
Once was out on the lake.. Real nice day... Storm blew up in like 10 minutes.. I thought I was in 6 foot swells.. Scared me to death.. Water coming up over the bow.. Lucky I had a big engine on a little boat.. I don't think rated HP woulda got me to the ramp... I stayed in the river pretty much after that...

I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina, not to many storms around here, :)! The 1852 is pretty wide at the beam too, 71" I think. 21" sides are good too. Do you think the modified V hull will help with the choppy water? Usually we just hide in the coves! Haha. I figured the weight and design of the g3 was a great fit. The 1860vbw would be great if it had bench seats too. Im not planning on adding a deck just a few poles and seats, so the center of gravity is low. I thought the 1852 was huge, what do you guys consider a big stable jon? Thanks keep the ideas rollin!, Will

1852 is definitely a big stable jon and a very versatile boat. Can't go wrong there. That said, the mod-V will help with the chop some, but you'll still know you're in a john boat when Mom Nature and/or other boats get the lake all churned up. If forced to choose between the two I'd go with option A (G3), but if not forced to choose between the two I'd go with option C; a ten year old Xpress type boat, motor and trailer with FCTM for another grand or so. If you already have your TM and power plant worked out that's a different matter.

Cool, yeah Ive got a foot controlled trolling motor and an electric start tiller merc already to put on the boat. From what Ive read the g3 is a big tough welded jon. I hope that means long life too! Im glad somebody has experiance with the g3 wsof jon. I hope more comments come in from people who have owned one or at least have ridden in one. Im deff leaning to the g3 wsof 1852. Now what about using an ez steer setup on the g3? Anybody use it?
