It must be braced properly on the inside. It will require a large backing plate. This is not something you should approach lightly; there's usually a huge amount of stress applied to this hardware on a 26 foot boat, and a failure there can cause serious damage and/or injury.

Ayuh,... Boats that big usually don't have bow-eyes...
I put 1 into my 34' houseboat last year,...
1/2" diameter SSteel,+ tied it into the anchor tie-in...

thanks how did you tie it into the anchor line?? ....had a guy tell me to just drill the hole and put it in with the little plate it comes with .just did not see how that could hold .......thinking ..could bend a steel plate the shape of the bow ..have it cover 8 inches around the inside of the eye mount

That's not considered a big boat !!. Its a boat that is trailer all the time and most all came with them. :).
Why yours didn't come with one who knows ??.

Those old Chris's are HEAVY. If you do put an eye in there, put lots of structure under it. Dunno if I'd trust a an 8" plate, I'd make it bigger if I could. Around here, they just sling lift them out onto the trailers....

how did you tie it into the anchor line?? ....

Naw, Not the anchor Line, but where it dead-ends at the bow, in the locker...
My hull has a 3/4" plywood stringer that deadends there..
I slid an aluminum pipe through the hole there(where the anchor line ties),+ ran the U-bolt through it...

Sorry, but no picture of it..
You could probably bend an aluminum plate to do the same in your bow..

I have been doing some research into this very thing for my 28'er I had planned on forming a 3/8 plate and having it galvanized but after a bunch of reading I am going to do it with glass and wood..... you first wipe down wash and then grind the inside of the hull till it is free of all grime paint and gelcoat.... then cut a square hardwood block or heavy marine ply and perfectly fit to the hull you will fill the triangular void behind it with resin soaked glass ans glass over it to hold it in place.... then drill and back with a stainless plate.... you could pretty much lift the boat with a helicopter if done this way..... the brace being glassed to the hull is much stronger than the formed metal plate I had first planned
