Is it okay to mix different brands of oil? The guy I bought the boat from used Quicksilver oil. But I am a believer in using the manufactures oil. The tank is half full with Quicksilver, is it okay to top it off with Johnson/Evinrude oil?

It may be okay, but I wouldn't do it.

Re: Ok to Mix Oil?

What difference does it make? Where do you think all this oil comes from in the first place? Then to meet certain specs, like TCW-3, certain types of oil have to be used with certain additives. Do you think for one minute that the TCW-3 spec for Merc is different from OMC.....Bombadier?

Quit worrying. Worry about something important...like flying from UK to USA and having some pervert blow your airplane up. Now that's something to worry about and another reason why you'd have to chain me and drag me on board to get me on another airplane.

Were you around when marine oil was 30 wt auto oil at a 16:1 ratio?

Scuse me but I'm really P.... Off. Just got my light bill.....$350 where it has never been over $175 under the worst of conditions....not counting how much you have to pay for fuel at the pump for the vehicles now-a-days.

But the current administration says there is no inflation...............Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffttt. Ever met an honest politician? Never have and probably never will. Goes against the grain to hold the office.

Feel better now, Texasmark?

30W will work at heavier mix ratios, but TC-W3 is MUCH better. It would be foolish to go back to the old 16:1 30W days.

Want to do even better? Castrol Full Synthetic TC-W3 smokes a lot less and is bio degradeable and causes less sheen on the water. I'm converted.

Now, about that electric bill...........where can I get a cheap generator? Preferably one that doesn't run on gasoline.

Re: Ok to Mix Oil?

I tell you what Texasmark, I will not worry about one bit if you put the money up to replace my motor for doing something stupid like mixing oil. I though this was a forum for learning and helping others with there problems. Not for some ahole to go around mouthing cause someone may or may not know something little. I guarantee you didn't know everything when you bought your first boat did ya?

Scuse me too I'm a little p off too, because I didn't save a bunch of money from switching to Geico.

If its under warranty don't do it, or at least don't admit to doing it...but Mark is probably right...TCW-3 is TCW-3 under any label. We've heard from almost every corner of the great state of Tejas in this thread and even a stray voice from the land o gators. If you want the economy to moderate, put the Kinkster in office, ditch Guv. Good-Hair and send Ted Nugent in to nuke Iraq and claim us some oil holes. For what we're doing over there, we oughta be paying 25 cents a gallon at the pump here at home...go figger, where's my jigger? That's Lubrock heard from anyway.

Quite alright to mix TCW-3 oils, even under warranty. Court ruling many years ago stated that, if rated but not EOM oil would void a warraty then, the manufacturer must supply the oil to the motor owners free of charge.
The only exceptions to mixing different oils in the OMC/Bombardier world would be maybe Fitchs and for sure the E-Techs.
