I know that opinions will vary greatly on this,so let it fly.I want to try a new stainless prop on my boat,,19 foot aluminum with a 1993 Johnny 120. I have it in my mind that the ballistic has to be right up there, correct me if I am wrong. It just seems that it is a unique design. Please give me your experiences with different props,,if any.

Different props for different boats. I do not believe there to be a "BEST PROP".

I have a personal choice and it isnt a brand name, but I like at least a four blade, I am now running a High Five because I like the hole shot, and it keeps hooked up better at full trim and in the corners. It does cost me a couple MPG on the top though. If you are looking for good all around performance I would go with a four blade, if max top end is your goal, then probably a 3 blade is your best bet but not necesarily, it may be a four blade.

TEST, TEST, TEST, is the only way to tell.

I agree with lube dude. I had a 20 pitch laserII on my 20' stratos 201 pro with a 150 mariner magII. It ran 49 mph at 6k rpm. Mercury said a 21 pitch high five would be a better prop. (sking&tubing)kids :) I got a 22 pitch on ebay for $330. Great deal on a great prop. Now I run 55 mph at 6k rpm with a little trim. It jumps out of the water now. Last weekend I had 6 in the boat tubing. It ran 45 mph. Get all the info you can. Read,surf... The info is out there. Iboats is the greatest resorse to use.

Chippy and LD, I am looking for a prop that will "carry" the bow of my speedboat at high speed. I currently run a 21P 3 blade standard Michigan on my '77 150 HP Inline Merc 6. The boat rides relatively flat, with max trim. Any suggestions?

Chris,

It's possible that you need to raise your motor some on the transom... If it's too low, it can cause this.... Test carefully if you decide to do so, you don't want to loose water pressure...

mrtool- Ballistic has been made by several different manufacturers over the years and is now made by Michigan Wheel which has improved its quality from the earlier versions. There was a test of stainless props in a recent edition of Bass&Walleye boats and the Ballistic did very well. it remains one of the more affordable SS props. I use one and am very happy with it, although it did increase motor vibration over the factory aluminum prop. Michigan Wheel also has a Rapture prop which they started making with a replaceable hub sleeve this year like the factory merc props. Something to look at.
