I have aquired 40 unopened bottles of Nissan 2 cycle outboard motor oil but it is around 15 years old. The oil has been sitting on a shelf in a heated warehouse all these years and I was wondering if it would be safe to use? I can see no visible separation in the oil if that makes a difference.

Do they have the old TC-W2 rating on it or the newer TC-W3 rating? Not sure I'd use it if was TC-W2. And definitely wouldn't use it in any of the newer TLDI (direct injected 2str) motors.

FWIW, I wouldn't think oil would go "bad" just sitting on a shelf for 15+ years (after all, it was in the ground for millions of years before that) :) But who knows...maybe all the additives, etc they put in to it goes bad. I'm sure some of the dealers that frequent this board would have a better gauge of the shelf-life of oil.

Open a bottle and smell it...If it has a rotted smell or has a brownish color its bad.
