I recently bought an old 3 hp air cooled ob. There is no name on it anywhere that I can find. It ran rough and would quit often, so I took the carb off and cleaned it up. Stamped on the carb is the name Lauson. After cleaning cleaning it I noticed that the float had fuel in it and that there was a small hole in it. Does anyone know where I could find one for this type of carb? I believe that Lauson made and sold lawn mowers a long time ago...did they sell to another company?

Is it a four-stroke? The Lauson lawn mower engine company did indeed make outboards. It would be a four stroke with a cast iron cylinder if that is what you have. The Lauson co merged with Power Products co, and is now Techumseh. Tecumseh makes all the many two-stroke powerheads used on the Eska variants such as Sears' Ted Williams and dozens more. They would be two-stroke with aluminum cylinders.

You can repair the float with the hole down alternately warm and cool the float till all the gas drains out.DON"T USE A FLAME!! Clean the area and solder with a soldering gun
plumbers flux and acid core solder.

Take it to a lawnmower shop. They will have a replacement.
