old boat cheap

[10 FOOT INVADER]

Went over to a friends house the other night to look at a used boat he just bought. While at his house he had a 73 wellcraft 165 under a tarp. I asked about it and he said that he put a floor and other fiberglass work in it and lost interest. Boat is solid has solid transome and a 4cyl mer engine 140 hp that runs real smooth. Has older merc drive that shift smooth and trim works. He said 200.0 for it. Boat overall is clean no seats. Is it worth 200.0? Does anyone have one of these? Have a guy from michigan comming down sat to pick up my invader so I will have a empty spot for a project.

If that outdrive is in good condition it is worth almost that much, not to mention if the engine runs good. Is it worth it to you? Could be nice a boat, but could be alot of work. A solid transom is always a plus. Even though the engine runs, check the usual. Compression should be over 100 and within 10%of each other. Check for corrosion and signs of abuse. Check lower unit oil for shavings, etc. Does it have a trailer?
I would probably buy it for 200, but its up to you!!

Ayuh,........

An old 140hp, with solid Compression, Fully dressed, is worth a Grand by itself.....
An old Mod.1 outdrive tha's in functioning shape is worth $750.00, All Day Long......
Is it on a Wagon,..??

I'd say it's of Little or No Risk buying it........

It is on a trailor. I will be picking it up on sat. TOO good to pass up. Should be a good project for my 2 boys and me. Sold my little 10 foot invader. First boat I put together. Bought a 20 foot monterey thinking it needed work. Guess the guy was right it needed nothing to make it water ready. So this little wellcraft will be my first project boat. Going to rip the floor out and atleast replace it for the experiance. Then hopefully get to move on to a bayliner capri model. Love the way the bayliners capris look.

Yeah, a Bayliner Capri, despite several naysayers on this forum, will be a nice next step.
