Have a interest in an older (1985-ish?) Midland. Comes with 1995 Yami 115 h. 2 stroke. 2 VHF radios w/ ant., Lowance 527I gps/ff. Includes couple PFDs, anchor, 100' warp.
Seller says, "well maintained, cheap to use, 2 fuel tanks (plastic pertables?), extra alum. prop, lower unit(? Hmmm), very clean and in great shape".

Picture looks fine. Not a scum line on the hull.Doesn't look re-painted except the bottom, and it looks fine. Also comes with a Pilot House made by Dyer Boats. Not some piece of interior wallboard - LOL. And some sort of trailer.

Pilot house sounds nice for early spring & late fall. Think I'd hate it in July / Aug. though. Perhaps make the top half removable? Would need to look.

Anyways, he's wanting to sell for "any reasonable offer."
My problem, if it checks out as in at least fair to good condition, what would be a fair offer in today's market? I wouldn't know what to offer.
Knowing the economy sux. Wrong time of year to sell (good to buy though).
I've not a clue where to start. I see boat prices all over the place. Some seemingly very high, and some fairly cheap. :(

Basicly a loaclly made work skiff. Were used for quahoging and inshore lobstering.
Kind of a cross between an Eastern rig and a Mako I guess. Fairly heavy boats for the time. Soft chined, planning hull I believe.
I'd think a 75-90 Hp would be more than adequet but,,,
I maybe wrong, but as I remember they were not self bailing. At the time, they were considered "good" boats. But that was when most had flat bottom work skiffs too.

The engine, if it checks out OK (Compression, lower unit, etc.) is worth at least $1,500.00.

Go from there.

LOL .... translation for everyone else .... a quahog is a clam.

BTW, would you mind running up to Georges and getting me a couple dozen clamcakes to go? :D

PS: I don't see any gear on it for pulling lobster traps but it looks like it would be good for that. Also looks like a good boat for the ponds and Block Island Sound - plenty of bow on it for seas in general, and going in/out of the breachways at Charlestown and Point Jude. The doghouse makes me wonder if it has been used for quahogging with tongs up in Narragansette Bay.

Re: Old boat $ offer???

the hull design is a copy of a pango? (sp?)

the pango is a workhorse boat hull designed for high sppeed and stability in almost any seas.......it is used heavily in south america and coastal fishing areas.

looks like front glass opens, plus. as DJ said motor $1500, old electronics $00.00. you don't give the length. trailer $5-600. then you have find the condition of the hull.
Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame. You walk all over the deck, that a mallot, or hammer with wooden handle, using handle, tap all over the transom, a shape rap is good solid base, a thud, is questionable base.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. (This part for outboard motors Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,)
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.
boat motor combo, A 30 year old may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.
