Hello everyone. I bought an old evinrude 15 hp Im guessing a 60s model. It has an electric start. It has a three prong connection on front of motor for im guessing wiring harness for key which did not come with it. Would the key give the spark to motor? if so where could I purchase this harness . also i dont know where positive battery cable hooks up to motor. Plug in on front of motor has one wire to starter red. one wire to ground black and one wire to electric choke any help would greatly be appreciated thankx frank d.

Post your model and serial number and someone will let you know what year you have and then you can decide if it is worth spending about $40.00 on for a repair manual by the way welcome to iboats

My "guess" is the plug (3 prong) is where the battery hooks. post the model# to be sure but I think it should run without a battery (if its old enuf)

I have a 59 18 horse elec. start and a late sixties 20 horse elec. start. They have the same "3 prong" looking connector. Without a key it will be in the "off" mode to get the key out. That means the "kill" wires are going to keep it from starting unless you unplug the harness at the motor. You should be able to rope start it then and it will run until you choke it to death.
