Old fiberglass gas tank reseal or replace?

My Aristocraft with a Mercruiser 110 has back to back seats that lay flat and the base on the left side is the actual gas tank. It is fiberglass and lined with something black. I don't really know if you can get this style tank flushed and resealed, or do I even need to? I was thinking about building an aluminum fuel cell and cutting open the top and dropping it in there? But worried about how much capacity I'm going to lose with the original tank being tapered. I'd like to get the original tank to work, and DEFINITELY don't want to replace the seat base entirely.
Thanks.
I don't know if this is the correct section to find out about gas tanks, sorry. If not, please let me know where to go.

This is probably not the right section, but a mod will move it to the right one...

Why not build a tapered ali tank?

Chris.......
