My boat sat for 1.5 years and now im getting her going again. The fuel was bad although she would run on it, at least in the driveway. I have drained this fuel at least to the pick up and am changing the racor filter/separator and the inline filter on the outboard. I think im going to add fresh fuel and hope for the best. Is there anything I should add to the first batch of gas that may improve chances of having no fuel problems anything else that is recommended (short of pulling the tank)?

thanks
Dale

17 months isn't really that bad. I would think that the new fuel and check your filters. I don't know of anything to put in the gas to help put matters. I guess I don't know what you mean when you say the fuel is "bad". Was there water in it or something else in the fuel? If there was water then "heat" will help that.

Re: old fuel

Put in some seafoam. It will also help get rid of any moisture that may be in the tank from such a long sit...

I think fuel loses its octane over time... it breaks down and you dont have the combustion you should.....

I would think adding fresh fuel with a little more octane and some seafoam might help at this point....

burn it all up fast..would be my suggestion

or set it aside and use it to start your brush or camp fire some day

If will still run on the old stuff, top it with premium and take it out and burn it all up.

If you used Sta-Bil or something equivalent to it when you stored the boat you should be good to go. Sta-Bil is good for up to two years. If not i would drain as much gas from the tank as possible then refill with fresh and add a can of seafoam.

Don't know what motor you have but if it has carbs it would be a great idea to drain each one and with drain plugs out, pump primer bulb to "flush out" as much water and junk as possible. I always drain mine onto a clean white rag to see what was in it. Good luck!
