Old Gas, To keep or get rid of?

I have a 1988 Yamaha 130 Outboard and I am rebuilding the carbs this weekend. The boat has been sitting for 14 months. Is there anyway to salvage the gas that has been sitting in the tank or do I need to drain the tank? If the tank does need to be drained any idea what people do when they have old gas? I live in South Florida so dumping probably is not an option.

If the gas was stabilized properly it'll probably be OK. If you don't know, then drain it completely or you'll be re-doing the carbs.
I've always used up the old gas by mixing it into the tank of my work truck or lawn tractor. Never had any problems.

Yeah, DON'T run this in a two stroke, use it in lawnmowers and vehichles even, but I wouldn't risk it in a two stroke outboard by the hair on my chinny chin chin...unless I win the lottery, then i wouldn't care....

I used gas that has sat for a year many times over with no problems.

Drain it in to 5 gallon cans when your car gets to half a tank add one of the cans then fill the car up with fresh gas. It would'nt hurt to filter the old gas some how before it goes in to your tank.

Give it the sniff test....smells like varnish, you gotta dump it, legally. Smells like gas, use it in anything but your 2 stroke. My .02

I had to dispose of 15 gallons of bad fuel recently and was able to dump it at the city's trash collection center. They only accept fuel a few days of the week and for limited hours, but at least I was able to get rid of it.

I have an f150 4wheel drive that uses lots of gas. It has never bothered my truck to use the old gas when putting it in about 5-8 gallons at a time. Done it for years. No probs. Good luck.
