I had some left over gas that has oil in it. Its 24/1 ratio. Would it hurt my car if I used it up in there? Will it be ok to use up in a few weeks if I go fishing again ? Its about 10 weeks old now.

Re: Old Gas

If your car has a catalytic converter,it will also have an O-2 sensor. The oil in the mix will ruin them. Also, it can clog injectors if so equipped.
The fuel should be useable up to 6 months with very little problem, but after that, all bets are off.
So your fuel is just fine.

Re: Old Gas

Use it in your lawn mower :p Just joking at this time of year you are not mowing your lawn I'm sure, how about snowblower. Add stablizer to it and it should be ok.

Re: Old Gas

My dad dumped some 50:1 mix in the old 77' ford van we used for pulling boats around the yard. It was like a smoke screen every time we cranked the old girl up.

OBJim :D

Re: Old Gas

Maybe I was just lucky, but I ran about 7 gallons of 2 year old 50/1 through my 1987 fuel injected Ford pickup with no apparent ill effects. I think the trick is to dilute it with enough fresh gas so that you end up with a decent mix. I put it through in two batches, each mixed with a full tank of fresh 89 octane.

But I agree, the lawnmower is a lot cheaper to replace than even an old car.

Re: Old Gas

being a better car mechanic than boat mechanic, Ive gotta say that would be a big mistake if you run boat motor gas in a car.even if you cant tell right away if it has a bad effect, time will take its course and soon it could effect your whole fuel system.1 word sums this up, kurputt
be smart and dont gamble

Dennis,

Do not put it in your car/truck. The symptoms may not show up right away.

The most likely components that will be damaged are cat. convertors and oxygen sensors.

That is precisely the reason, and some others, that outboard manufacturers (2-stroke) are a having a tough time adapting cat. convertors to marine use.
