Re: Old Gas

Run it in the lawnmower. The newer cars with oxygen sensors don't seem to like the carbon that will build up on the sensors. It at best will do nothing at worst will shorten the life of the o2 sensors.

Quick trick....even though it's already "old", add some stabilizer to it before you run it thru the mower. the properties of the stab. will help in burn more consistantly.

Re: Old Gas

Before changing the seals, I'd replace the nylon washers that go on the fill/vent plug screws. Very often the source of leaks. <br /><br />At worst it costs you a couple bucks and a few minutes of time to find out if that is the problem. If it is still leaking then I guess you gotta look at replacing seals. Never done that myself, so I'll leave that to others to provide comments on.<br /><br />Good luck!<br /><br />Brew

And it wouldn't hurt to add some octane booster

This seemed like good sense to me, but I was browsing the sta-bil FAQ's page www.goldeagle.com and it stated<br />"I have some gas in a tank that has been there more than 2 months. Will STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer make this old gas like new? <br />No, STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer will not restore or improve old gasoline. It will, however, stop it from degrading further. The best thing to do is treat the fuel as soon as you buy it. "

I don't use STA-BIL....what I use is stated to allow suspension of moisture and to improve combustion of older, degraded fuel, now OF COURSE it's best to use fresh fuel, but when asked about using it in a mower, I added my advice from reffering to a briggs service bulliten.....sorry if it doesn't mesh with other posted info..... :)

Re: Old Gas

In response to the stabilizer/Stabil/Octane booster issue. I added what I would do. I still don't get what you meant about "stabilizer' though, Kenny...and I just figured out what you meant by "Mower"....(I think?LOL).<br />Just what is this stuff..."what I use is stated to allow suspension of moisture and to improve combustion of older, degraded fuel"...that you suggest?

Re: Old Gas

It's called a "Fuel Improver", and it's put out BY Briggs & Stratton. I call it "stabilizer" out of habit, as it does list that as a quality of the product.<br />"STA-BIL" is a specific product for a specific use...I just use something different for the reason of experience with both products, the Briggs product is better for what I want...costs a bit more, but hey, we're a dealer... :)
