Get all the numbers off the outboard, and we'll identify it and the year. Good for you for wanting to restore your dad's outboard!

A-25 is a 2 Hp motor built in 1925. Love to see a pic.

Re: old i mean old johnson motor

Those were great old motors. I had a 1929 A-45 and a 1930 A-50. I spent a whopping $2.00 to get my old A-45 running. At the time these were built, they were about the most reliable outboard ever made and if you ever meet anyone who owns one, he'll still swear by it's reliability. Mine was so easy to start, I just twist the flywheel with my hand and start it up.:D

Good luck with that old motor. It's very much worth the time and effort restoring it. You will not be disappointed in it.
