Hello;
Is anyone familiar with the old Johnson generator with the belt drive? It’s from a 40 hp 1960 Rude. And none of my books show it and where the field and stator are on the generator. This is an old Rude that I restored and pieced together. The block diagram shows that there are two connectors one that says (F) and the other (A). Then it shows that it goes to a voltage regulator. There is a short and a long screw at the bottom of the generator, what I need to know is which one is the field and what kind of regular can I use? Does it need to be the old mechanical one or can I use the transistor type?
Thanks

Re: old Johnson generator

There should be a Stamped Letter next to each post. Not sure if you can use the newer regulator or not but NAPA auto can get the mechanical one for you. I just sold an NOS setup for the generator including all necessary harnesses. If you need any help with a harness. let me know. I have rebuilt and worked on a few of these older generator systems. Including making the harness from the regulator to the junction box connection strip. If you can't see the letters let me know. I will check the new generator I have here and send you a pic.

bhalsdorf@access4less.net
