i have a 67 johnson golden meteor 100hp model number V4TL - 13A . took it out today for the first time ran good for about a hour or so . then the idle went WAY up (if i had to guess how fast id say between 1500 and 2000 rpm). to the point when i first put it in gear with the throttle as slow as it can go i'am makeing good size wakes (in the no wake zone). is there an way adjust the idle on this motor or what can i do to fix it . (p.s.) the compresion is good i checked that already thanks guys.

Is the red fast idle lever on the remote control at it's slowest position? It is designed so that you can nudge it up a bit if it is too slow. Maybe it is nudged too far??

sounds like something hung up in the linkage. As FR said check the fast idle control.

ok i checked the idle control and the lever was all the way foward ( toward the front of the boat) which as best i can tell should be slower idle. so what else would cause it to idle so very high?
