So I picked up a 59 Johnny QD-20, and I know I need to replace the fuel filters. Everywhere I go, they tell me I have to go to an OMC dealer, of which there are none locally. Can anyone tell me the cross-references (Sierra) for the filter in the bowl (I think that's the only fuel filter)? My problem is I don't really know what I'm looking for on such an old motor.

Re: Old Johnson QD-20 parts?

HI Beefer. Small world, I live in Tallahassee and I used to have a '61 QD-22. It was a great little motor. As for the fuel filter, most folks, myself included, get rid of the factory stone filters as they never really worked that well and were/are hard to find. In its place I used a little 1/4" inline fuel line like the one in the link below. I put mine between the fuel pump and the carb. Not only does it filter the fuel, but it allows you to visually inspect the flow of fuel, which is handy. It takes about 1 minute to install and they work like a charm. I use them on all my vintage OMC motors and they work great. Best $5 you can spend. You can get on hear or at your local auto parts store. A bit of spit, or vaseline on the either end will help it slide into the fuel line. If only everything on motors were so easy. Cheers.
