I just bought an old (1962 year modle)18' aluminum deep V hull for fishing Fort Peck Lake here in Montana. Water is seeping through some of the rivets. What is the best way to stop the leaks?
You need to reset the rivets, Tiger. They not only seal the holes, they keep the boat structure rigid.

It usually takes 2, one with a buck and one with a hammer.

Once the structure is tight, you might consider lining the hull with Rhino-lining type material to seal it and to quiet it.

Good luck.
And I thought they were suppossed to leak......

Both of mine leak but a question on the Rhino Liner. For a twelve foot open boat, does the rhino liner get hot in the sun? Or is there a specific color to pick that stays cooler?
As the rhino liner I dont know but i can speak for Line-x I had it in my 1988 dakota. was put in there before I got it in 1999. I bet the tar out of it and it still worked great. I droped everything from junk old motor and trannys do cinder blocks to scrap metal and it came back asking for more. It did get alittle hot in the summer but not hot enough to cook an egg...(God was I drunk on that day). The only real problem I had with it was, once it got wet it was really slippery. fell on my @55 a few times. SO if you plan on putting the boat in the water dont use line-x.
By far the easiest and least expensive way to do it,is to clean up both sides and put 3m 5200 sealant on both sides. It will give you strength and be 100% waterproof on anything you put it on.I did a 25ft alum cabincruiser with it .It also allows some flex which will be important on an old boat.Charlie
Out of curiosity, how much weight do you add when you put rhino liner in a small boat. I know alot of the jet sleds out here in the Northwest use spray on liners but haven't seen them in the smaller boats.
Post on the boat building forum. JasonJ there has used a product called Evercoat(???) on his inside decks, for traction/protection, and has the details. Cheaper and easier than bed liner I believe.
Hello
after bucking the rivets every spring we always painted my uncles 18 ft grumman with gluvit. it is a paint on product made to help seal rivits.
good luck and keep us posted
PS the 3rd guy bails
I might try thatwith my aluminum canoe- it really doesn't leak much atall, but the rhino type liner might dampen the noise .I would think ading some anti- slip material would be beneficial
