I have finally started on my old lightfour project. It is a complete motor that is stuck. Have a couple of questions. Before I start, I know that the antique outboards board would have more answers but I have spent enough time on here that I don't want to break into a new discussion board.
I have managed (or would that be mangled) to get both heads off. All four pistons are stuck, only one has visable rust from a headgasket leak. The rest are just gunked up. I have been hosing them with PB blaster to get them loose enough to pull. The plugs are in the side of the heads so there is no way to put a wood dowel into the cylinder to pound them out. So any ideas how to get them out. Next issue is I broke two rods when removing the heads. Any idea what other rods would be interchangable? Model number is 4383 a 9.7hp from the late 40's.
My main point for this project was to learn hands on how two stroke outboards work on the inside before I tear into a good motor. If I kill this one in the process I am not too worried.
