I just brought home a new to me 74 ebbtide that has an old Lowrance Depth finder. The model says LFG-305. I haven't put the boat in the water yet so I don't know if it works. Does anyone still use one of these and is mine still likely to work or should I go ahead and replace it?

Wow thats a blast from the past. We still have one of those but haven't used it in a few years. Works ok for depth and you have to learn to read the bottom structure, etc based on the flashes. I'd buy something used from this decade for next to nothing rather than use one of these.

Ok, thanks. I think i'll just go pick up a new one and pack the old one away. I'm a sucker for old stuff like that. Any recommendations on a new model?

No sorry, I rarely fish any more so can't give any feedback there.

My dad is an avid fisherman and had an old flasher and the graph he was going to use. There was somthing special about them that worked better than a newer fish finder if you knew how to read them, but he never could explain it to me. Possibly because the signal is analog. He couldn't find the right transducers and they never made it on the boat.. As for a more modern fish finder. You can pick up a used $39.99 special off Ebay and catch fish or read your depth

Ya, I don't even know how to read that thing. I guess I wont know until I get it in the water and turn in on.

I would buy one of this. Fantastic sonar for fishing without all the color crap to deal with. This is very much like my (older) Eagle 480 which is an awesome fishing tool for the money.
